WEEK OF MAY 22ND
Events

Whitevale's 34th Longest Day of Golf (LDOG) is Friday, June 20th. Inspired by seven-year-old Jeffrey Store's battle with pediatric cancer, this event began in 1991, raising $1,623 in the first year and has raised a total of $582,825 to date for the Canadian Cancer Society (100% of proceeds).

Our incredible foursome - Paul Stephenson, Kevan Goble, Jacquie Dunne, & Craig Ferns - will golf from dawn (approx. 5:30 a.m.) until dusk. Forecaddies will alert each group when the dedicated foursome is coming through - if you're playing, please step aside to cheer them on!

Events
  • Our rough is growing, a bit faster than we can cut it. Please be patient with us as we try our best to keep up with the growth and weeds

  • Our intermediate cut around fairways will hopefully be back next week, currently waiting on parts for a mechanical issue

  • All renovated bunkers from last year are now open for play. Please remember to rake the bunkers after play and place the rake on a flat location to enter/exit

  • Please note that a hole may be closed for transportation reasons, even though no staff may be working in the bunkers please do not play any closed holes until the flag is back in the green

  • Poa seed head is still in full force on greens but should begin to look and play better as we move into next week

Posting Scores and Match Play Events

To post scores for incomplete golf rounds for handicap purposes, you must have played at least nine holes with a corresponding 9-hole course rating and slope rating. If you play between 10 and 17 holes, you'll need to enter hole-by-hole scores for the holes played, leaving the unplayed holes as “0”. The unplayed holes will have their scores adjusted based on the USGA's rules of handicapping.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

  • Minimum Holes Played:
You must have played at least nine holes with a recognized 9-hole course rating and slope rating to post a score for handicap purposes. If you play nine holes and there were holes not played due to construction this score is ineligible to post.
  • Hole-by-Hole Scoring:
If you play between 10 and 17 holes, you will enter your scores for each hole you played and leave the remaining unplayed as “0”.
  • Adjusted Scores: When holes are closed
The unplayed holes will be adjusted using the "expected score" method, which considers factors like your handicap index and the par and handicap strokes for each hole.
  • Scoring for Unfinished Holes: Used for Matches that end early
If you start a hole but don't finish it, you'll use the "Most Likely Score" procedure to estimate your score for that hole.
  • All tee times were made with the priority of the A,B,C membership categories.
  • All “A” players were given early tee times then mixing in “B” and “C” accordingly.
  • We have done our best to accommodate all requests.

Sr Men's Ryder Cup Qualifying 2025

  • Deadline to sign up is this Saturday May 24th at 11:59pm.
  • Open to all “A” and “B” members with a handicap of 10 or less.

Add Some Bounce

Frequently at Whitevale we're faced with a little pitch or chip shot from a tight fairway lie that needs to be lofted high over a bunker or finger of rough. Even for low handicappers, this situation can be unnerving as it's so easy to chunk or thin this shot. Rather than employing the standard back in the stance-strike down steeply-lean the shaft forward at impact technique, instead, try engaging your wedge's bounce. To do so, position the ball in the middle of your stance, distribute your weight evenly, and situate your hands over top of the ball so the shaft is vertical. Swing back like Sheffler, using a minimum of wrist cock, and through impact release the clubhead smoothly with your trail hand - almost as if you were lobbing a beanbag to a 5 year old kid who's 5-10 yards away. The goal is to return the shaft to its starting position at impact - vertical, not leaning forward. No clubface rotation is required; it should face the sky at the finish. This technique shallows the club's attack angle. Now you have some margin for error because even if the clubhead bottoms out behind the ball, the bounce ensures the leading edge won't dig into the turf and you'll still get a workable result. When applied properly, this method basically eliminates the dreaded “laying the sod” over the ball result.
