Stay Sun Safe on the Green!

As we are entering the hottest days of summer we'd like to remind you that protecting your skin is crucial for a comfortable and healthy round. Remember to apply broad-spectrum sunscreen generously before you head out, and reapply it every two hours, or more often if you're sweating. Wearing a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and UPF-rated clothing along with using an umbrella are also great ways to boost your protection.

A friendly reminder: While spray sunscreens are convenient, please avoid applying them on tee decks or greens. The residue can damage the playing surface. Opt for lotions in these areas, or spray while on paths.

Thank you to Yvette Fulton for the photo!

  • Dol Turf should be finished up by the end of this week, but there is still work for the Whitevale Turf Team to complete.
  • As the bunker project wraps up, please be patient as we tie up loose ends.
  • Additional sand will need to be added and distributed throughout the bunkers, and extra hand watering will be necessary on all new sod.
  • Bunkers will remain out of play until the sand levels have been confirmed, sod has rooted enough and bunker boards have been removed.
  • Enjoy your free lifts from the bunkers before they’re gone!

Bunker Versatility

Instead of using the same club every time you’re in a greenside bunker, try varying things up according to the length of the shot. For example, if you’re short sided and have almost no green to work with - say the right bunker on 3 with a blue pin - use your 60 degree wedge as it’s best suited for a high, soft landing, result. Conversely, if you’re faced with a back pin from a front bunker – the right greenside bunker on 9 – utilize a gap or pitching wedge to attain a low trajectory shot that will carry deep into the green then release to the blue pin. On both of these shots the technique will essentially be the same. It’ll take some time, but once you’re used to this method, you’ll find it simplifies your sand play process and yields reliable, effective results
