3.13 The Dave Myrvold Junior Golf Fund and Bursary
Whitevale Golf Club takes pride in having a professional, fun and friendly environment for junior golfers to discover the game of golf through participation in camps, group programs and private lessons. In 2019, the Dave Myrvold Junior Golf Fund was created to provide an additional source of funds to support the development of junior golf, and to recognize the contribution of David Myrvold in growing the junior program at Whitevale.
The Fund is administered by a committee that includes the General Manager, Club President, Head Golf Professional, Club Captain, a representative of the Myrvold family and other appointees as determined by the Whitevale Board of Directors. The Committee has the authority to make rules and regulations concerning the program, and to administer the Dave Myrvold Golf Fund and Bursary.
The Fund was created from memorial donations provided by Whitevale members after David Myrvold’s passing. Additional sources of funds may be arranged by the Committee.
The Fund is intended to help all junior golfers at Whitevale through the provision of facilities and teaching aids, and prizes and awards, and it may be used to subsidize any costs associated with junior memberships. The Committee meets on an annual basis prior to the start of the golf season, or subsequently on an as-needed basis.
The Dave Myrvold Bursary
Each year the Committee may make an annual award of up to $500 to a child or grandchild of an equity member.
Applicants for the bursary must:
- be at least 11 years of age;
- be a member in good standing in the Whitevale Junior program;
- write a letter outlining how the money will be used (e.g., to provide financial assistance to a junior-aged friend for the introduction of Whitevale and the game of golf);
- write a 500-word essay on why they love golf;
- provide a list of volunteer or good will activities.
The decision to make an award is entirely at the discretion of the Committee, and is not open to appeal.
Those members interested in the bursary should contact the office for an application form.
