3.15 Member Relationships with Staff

Equity Members own a transferable membership in Whitevale Golf Club. By virtue of owning that membership, Equity Members receive golfing and other privileges, and as stated in By-Law 1, Section 5.9(e), they elect a Board of Directors to manage the affairs of the Corporation. The Club employs a governance model in which the Board of Directors develops the strategy, and the staff, under the supervision of the General Manager, operates the facilities. Members who wish to play a more active role in the Club and its direction are encouraged to volunteer to be a member of a committee, or to join the Board of Directors.

The Board and its committees have defined relationships with staff departments and these relationships are used to prioritize and support the activities of those functions. Neither the Board nor other Whitevale members have the authority to discipline, direct or request special treatment from any member of the staff. All supervisory responsibilities lie with the General Manager, and any requests or complaints must be brought to the General Manager’s attention.

Information about the operation of the Club is provided to Whitevale members on a regular basis through communications such as Sideline 30. Members have no authority to request additional reporting to satisfy their personal curiosity about the operation of the Club. Should a member believe that some additional information would be useful to the membership, that should be brought forward in a written suggestion to the Board or the General Manager.
