4.16 Intermediate Associate Membership
Description
The purpose of this policy is to describe Whitevale Golf Club’s Intermediate Associate Membership, one type of Associate Membership.
Intermediate Associate Membership bridges the gap between Junior Associate Membership and Equity Membership. Many young adults are still in school or are simply getting a life started with many financial and time commitments that can make Equity Membership impractical. Intermediate Associate Membership has a sliding scale of fees based on age, and provides features designed for younger adults. Intermediate Associate Members may range in age from 19 to 34, as of January 1st of the year.
A maximum of 50 Intermediate Associate Members may exist at one time. Membership in this category is annual: each year, entry to the Intermediate Associate Membership category is open to those individuals who are children or grandchildren of a current Equity Member in good standing, provided they have not been subject to a disciplinary action.
Effective for the 2025 season and thereafter, no new sponsored Intermediate Associate members will be accepted for admission to this category; provided that any sponsored intermediates from the 2024 season will be considered for admission in the 2025 season and annually thereafter, provided they have not been subject to a disciplinary action.
A temporary cap exception will be allowed if the total of new “family” Intermediate Associate Members and returning Intermediate Associate Members is greater than the approved limit of 50 Intermediate Associate Members.
Golfing Privileges
Intermediate Associate Members have full 5-day access to the golf course and limited weekend and holiday access, subject to any other tee time restrictions that may be in effect. Specifically, they:
- may place ballots in the tee time lottery, 8 days in advance of the date of play;
- may book tee times on any day Monday through Friday at any time;
- may book tee times on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays starting at 4:30 p.m.; and
- following the lottery (four days in advance), may book unassigned afternoon tee times between 12 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays by calling the Pro Shop.
- may play in weekend events open to this category on the calendar, after 12 p.m.
Fees & Expenses
Intermediate Associate Members pay annual membership fees that are approved each fall by the Board of Directors for the upcoming golf season and as set out in the Membership Fee Schedule.
Intermediate Associate Members are also required to pay a minimum food & beverage charge that varies depending upon the Member’s age; this charge is set out in the Membership Fee Schedule. The total charge is divided into two halves, the first half applies to the period from May to July and the second from August to October.
Intermediate Associate Members do not pay assessments.
In addition to annual membership fees, Intermediate Associate Members shall pay annual initiation fee instalments based on age:
- 19-24 = No instalment
- 25-29 = $300 per year
- 30-34 = $400 per year
The total amount of instalments paid during the period of Intermediate Associate Membership is applied as a credit towards the payment of the initiation fee in effect at the time the member elects to become an Equity Member. This amount is non-refundable unless Whitevale Golf Club discontinues the Intermediate Associate Membership program or disallows the member from returning as an Intermediate Associate Member. The equity share must be purchased at market value by the age of 35.
Other Considerations
Intermediate members:
- have golf club storage, if it is available;
- are paid-up members of Golf Canada and have an official Golf Canada handicap;
- may play in weekend events open to this category on the calendar, after 12 p.m.
- will not have a locker;
- may not book reciprocal tee times;
- may not hold office or vote.
The Board of Directors reserves the right to discontinue or to change the privileges, terms or fees of the Intermediate Associate Membership category at any time.
